Cinematic Sunday One Hundred Twelve
It's Sunday, so that means trailers and I get some time away from you people (as I've come to think of all seven of you), so let's get it on, shall we?
First up this evening we have Eurocrime! The Italian Cop and Gangster Films that Ruled the 70's, which is a documentary directed by Mike Malloy. It covers a genre of film that I'm only vaguely familiar with (poliziotteschi), though I have liked the films I've seen within the genre. The film looks to be finished, but is in the process of raising money to secure the rights to the film clips used within the interviews. They've got a page set up here where you can see what your donation will get you, anywhere from music downloads, to signed merchandise, to actual Executive producer credits if you're feeling extraordinarily generous! The film features interviews with a who's who of the genre, including John Saxon, Franco Nero and Henry freaking Silva, just to name a few of the actors involved. The looks awesome and I can't wait for a proper release shedding some light on these little-seen films.
Next up we have the international trailer for the latest Paul Greengrass film, director of the last two films in the Bourne Trilogy. Green Zone stars Matt Damon in a thriller about a CIA agent in search of WMD's, with Michael Scott's ex Holly playing a reporter following their story. Greg Kinnear is in there as yet another betraying asshole type if the trailer is any indication, which continues his career path of playing countless pricks, but this time it's in a drama instead of a romantic comedy.
Finally we have something that may be taken down by the time most of you read this, but there's a trailer for George Romero's Survival Of The Dead floating around out there, which already had a 'take this down' message on the comments section of YouTube from someone representing the financiers or some such, leading me to believe that it won't last long. The tone of the trailer has a certain comedic edge that's not usually present in Romero's zombie films, so I'm not sure what type of movie we're in for with this one. Watch it before it's yanked, because God forbid a bunch of asshole fans want to promote and spread the word about their 'property' against their will. I know I'd hate it if some faceless web guy took it upon himself to promote something I was doing to try and make a living.
EDIT: and yes of course it's gone because people only like to market things in the way they see fit, rather than letting interested parties provide them with free support. Fuck me in my rotted zombie eyes.
I'm out kids.
Be seeing you.

I liked Kinnear in Mystery Men.
I tend to like Kinnear well enough, but I generally only recall him in roles where he plays a prick.
I’m really excited for Eurocrime and I am bummed to hear that it may not be out for a while. Green Zone looks pretty cool, but I am not a fan of the Bourne sequels at all…maybe I would have liked them had I been able to make out anything that happened with all the nonsensical camera movement going on…even when there wasn’t action! I knew there was a new trailer floating around the webs for Romero’s latest, but I really disliked Diary of the Dead, so I’m in no rush to see anything about it. Makes me sad that it will probably not be very good…but who knows.
Tonight was the first I recall hearing of the Eurocrime film, though since it's not a genre I'm that familiar with I may've heard it mentioned in passing and had it go in one ear and out the other.
I enjoy the Bourne stuff pretty well actually, so this looks right up my alley. (PS: In a Freudian typo I first wrote that last sentence 'looks tight up my alley', make of that what you will.)
I wasn't quite as underwhelmed with Diary Of The Dead as a lot of people were, but it wasn't good either. The (now yanked) trailer for the new film looks okay, but basically more of the same. I'm starting to lean towards the camp that says he should stop while he's behind, y'know?
