Ip Thursday (Or: Thursday Man...Sorry, They're Not All Winners)

The wife had yoga in the early morning today, so she was up and at 'em for that while I was still snoozing, having been up late reading a book about the sleazier days of 42nd Street and Times Square in the '80s. My alarm went off at 10:00 and I looked at e-mail for a bit, then finally thought the hell with it and turned over to go back to sleep for another hour or so. The wife eventually turned up and showered, which I was vaguely aware of, then she split again to attend her usual assortment of meetings that are back in full swing in the New Year.

I finally rose after noon, having managed about 8 hours sleep for the first time this week, so that was a nice change of pace, even if it pretty much pissed away half the day. I got up and opened the house up for the day, then decided to get out and pick up a bite to eat and watch some television over a late meal.

A couple burgers later I was parked in front of the television in the den, watching an episode of the Dark Shadows re-boot from the early '90s, as I was kinda giving them a look and sorta fell out of the habit. After I ate I fired up the PC and fiddled around with trying to upload a video an interweb acquaintance had asked about, with no success. This is why I don't bother with any d/loads or torrent type shit, because certain rudimentary tech stuff eludes me to the point that I just don't feel like dicking around with the frustration of it. Oh well, I finally gave the fuck up on that project and spent the rest of the afternoon with the nerdlists, which are so close to being finished I can almost taste it. Tomorrow I think I will finally be done with that nonsense and be able to start catching the blog up, which I think I have written every day for an entire week now, but we'll see what happens.

Fight!Since I still hadn't heard anything from the wife, I eventually drifted into the den again and popped in another Donnie Yen flick off the To-Watch Pile, the 2008 film Ip Man, which is the story of the martial arts master who would eventually go on to train Bruce Lee, though this tale is set during the Japanese occupation of China in the late '30s and stars Donnie Yen in the titular role, bringing the Wing Chun style of martial arts to prominence. Yen looks amazing as always, and the only thing that bugged me was the fact that I bought this movie on DVD a few years ago in a region free disc, because I'd heard so many great things about it, then promptly let it get lost on the shelf until today, when I can buy both this and it's sequel on 2 disc Blu-ray special editions that are produced for the US, rather than having to import jack shit. Very annoyed with myself, as I despise the double dip, especially when it's due to my own ignorance.

The wife returned as the movie was wrapping up and she and I spent some time catching up on her day, then we had some leftovers from last night for dinner and watched some odds and ends that've started turning up on the TiVo, new 30 Rock, Parks And Recreation as well as the welcome return of Person Of Interest on CBS. On a side note, I came to the puzzling realization that we now watch two different shows on CBS these days, does this mean I'm officially old? That network has long had the reputation of appealing to the elderly and not many else, so I guess it's somewhat inevitable.

We called it an evening after checking out this week's episode of The Soup, so I could get started with this and be in bed at a reasonable hour.

Be seeing you.
