Majestyk Television
I had set the alarm for 9:00 this morning, as we had plans to call a Plumber in to check out a slow moving drain in the master bath, as well as the toilet in the hall, which had started filling amazingly slowly in the past few days. I spent the morning on the PC, working on catching the nerdlists up to the end of last year, which I was finally able to do by about noon.
The Plumbers turned up and got the drain fixed up with no hassle, as it's a recurring issue, we think that the roots of a tree directly behind the house begin to grow and clog the pipes each year, we have to do this whole routine at least annually. The toilet on the other hand proved to be more of a pain in the ass, as the part that needs to be replaced is different from what is the standard nowadays, so they won't be able to get it fixed up until Monday. Oh well, thank God we have numerous other toilets to use, this one just happens to be the most convenient.
The wife had a noon meeting, so she'd split to attend that and I found myself feeling a bit peckish, so I called in an order for some Thai food and picked it up before settling in to watch something off the TiVo and eat my lunch.
Mr. Majestyk is a Charles Bronson movie that's as old as I am, premiering in 1974 and feeling for all the world like the basis of every Simpsons parody ever done of the Bronson persona, as his delivery is just hilariously tough guy in here, as his easy-going melon-farmer character finds himself in the middle of a showdown with the mob after a convoluted series of events. It's a watchable little film and while it's nothing all that different than the average action flick, it is fun for the snapshot of the times and the fairly silly set-up. Seriously, melon farming? Migrant workers and casual racism? It's a weird selection of things to drape an action film over, but it's still fun.
The evening brought a full slate of television, including new episodes of Nikita, Fringe, Supernatural and The Life And Times Of Tim, the lot of which ate up the rest of our night until we called it around 11:00 in the PM.
Tomorrow evening we have a birthday party for Anastasia Beaverhouszen, so I know I have some thing to get done before that happens.
Be seeing you.

Mr. Majestyk is based on an Elmore Leonard novel, something I discovered by accident; one of the restaurants I worked at while I was in nursing school had a bunch of books for show, and that was one of the books.
Glad to be done with nursing school and have time to check on my favorite blogs again, and maybe even write some posts myself!
Huh, now that I had no idea. Elmore Leonard is something of a blind spot for me, as I've watched numerous adaptations of his work, but have somehow never picked up the source material to give it a day in court.
Glad to hear from you! Hope all is well with you and yours. :-)
Thanks, they are! My son is getting ready for college-- he got accepted into his first choice, a school in Buffalo, New York, and got a nice scholarship. Waiting to hear on the rest of financial aid, but my new career should allow me to cover most of the rest. I told him that it's hard to believe he wants to go to school in a city that's colder and gets more snow than Chicago. My daughter started high school, in a drama program. It's funny-- the high school is where my grandfather went to high school in the 1920's. And my wife took a new job that is a step up-- from account management in her field to management.
Outstanding! :-)
